Stark contrast in the 6 year age difference between me and my younger brother:

When I was 12 I waited diligently by the tape player listening to the radio waiting for my favourite songs to come on with blank tapes.

My brother burns DVD-Rs of live shows he wants to see.

OKay so I want to upgrade to some decent equipment again...

a) is anyone selling any bass gear?

and

b) I know this is a long-debated issue, but who prefers 15" to 10"? I am only buying a half-stack for now anyways, but may buy a head with biamp capabilities just in case I want to add in teh future, but should I buy a 4x10 or a 15? I know the 4x10 moves almost twice as much air, but can't get <80hz out as clearly. the 15" does handle the lower frequencies much better, but i only play a 4 string anyways and >200hz can be an issue there. what do you guys think?

i cannot beleive how stupid some people are. honestly. read below.

so only a couple more days left at tim horton's, then just bluenotes and painting. aside from the couple of cool people that work there, i could not be happier to leave. the epitome of the stupidity of 50% of the staff there was neatly presented to me when i walked into the drive-thru section of the store after a break. i saw one of my supervisors plunging a sink that was clogged. instantly i knew what was taking place. calmly asking her if that was the plunger from the washrooms, she smiled and replied, "yes," as if there were nothing wrong with that.

this person is supposed to be supervising me, but they think it is appropriate to put a plunger which had touched the inside of a toilet bowl (and had made no attempt to clean) smack dab into the most-oft used sink in the store.

wow.

Is anyone selling any bass gear? this includes everything from rack tuners to basses to amps

I have decided to go back to it. my skills of a guitarist just pale in comparison.

by the way, f*ck 60 cycle hum. my dad has this sweet active bass, but the pickups are super hot and pick up all the hum in the house. there are sweet spots where it doesn't do it, but yeah, screw 60 cycle hum.

After two years with Accepting Silence, I am parting ways with the band. It had just become blatantly apparent that the four other guys were trying to make a career out of it, and I just didn't have the same aspirations. I feel bad for leaving, because it will hurt the band in its immediacy, however, once they find a fifth member with the same goals as them, I'm sure it will do nothing but benefit them.

I just have to concentrate on university right now, and the band was taking up too much time and money. I'm going to miss it and those guys, but I'm sure another project will come up soon enough, one that will perhaps be more focused on having fun around town than touring and labels and all that jazz.

I'd like to thank everyone that supported me and the band over the years, it was a great ride.

In the spring of 2003, I was in a ska band and a skate-punk band. Both were a lot of fun, but neither was performing to the potential they had or to the level I wanted to be at. I had been talking on the internet to Kevin Sczarkiwiecz for some time at that point, and it was decided while I was away in Saskatoon that I would come home and try out on bass. They picked me up at IGA, and were immediately skeptical, because of my ill-fitting team canada apparel...needless to say, my skillls of a bassist blew them away and I was in the band haha.

Oh wait, that was after the first time we were ever supposed to get together. That particular time, the plan was I would walk to the nearest bus stop, call them when I was getting on, and meet them at Polo Park. After walking for 20 minutes through the rain, I called to find out Jay was sick. Assholes. Well, I was thinking about never going back, but obviously I did.

Anyways, me and Kevin and Jay Mymryck practiced the same six songs over and over in his basement until we could find a vocalist. Many tried out, and many laughs were had. Some people just don't get it. I ended up finding out that my friend, Taylor Palmer, was interested in joining another band. We were pretty desperate, and Taylor was an awesome singer, so we let the two-band thing fly.

We were off to the races...we recorded two tracks at Jared Weiss', and they were a hit with my friends at least. They were played at so many parties. It was a good feeling to finally have your friends like your music not jsut because they are your friends, but because they actually enjoy it.

Our first show was at the Albert with Complete and Far From Heroes. That was a pretty big show for us, because we were actually fans of those touring bands before learning we were playign with them. The show was a flop, with no more than ten people in attendance, but it sure was fun.Especially when an awry drum fill brought bass and guitar in a half-measure apart from each other and we were so young and afraid on stage that we didn't fix it for half a chorus. Shloppy.

Things went good with Taylor, playing tons of community centres and Glenlawn parties (Hallopalooza was awesome). We played at Dakota Collegiate's Battle of The Bands, and we won. I was so pumped, because I had finally beat the Meyer brothers at something musical (And we got 500 bucks). I built up a pretty sweet rig (This is solely for me remembering...)

Ibanez XR(?) 400 bass (Newest Ibanez model, deep red with pearloid pick-guard)

SWR Bass 350 Head

GK 4x10 Cab

For a kid in grade 10, I thought that was pretty sweet. All of that now belongs to the bass player in Torn Into.

So yeah, things were good...until it came time to record again. Taylor did not want to shell out money for a new demo, and we began to see his interest waiver. Some real promise began showing for his other band, Losing Focus, and at his 18th birthday party, he dropped the bomb. Me and Kevin and Jay left, some mad, some hurt...and made the hour long walk back to my house. I'll always remember that night, just because emotions were so high, and Kevin wouldn't let me sleep because every time I would nod off I would get a hockey stick to the nuts. Assholes. haha

So the search was on for another singer, and we were in a rush because of a show in the States. DJ Sangilang jumped on board for a bit, and that was a good time, but we found that his pop-punk stylings worked with some of our stuff, but not all of it. DJ and us parted ways, and he is now in Buried In Denmark.

So, I got really, really drunk at my friend Carina's one night. Kyle Meyer, an acquaintance since Middle School, was there too. I had an hour-long conversation with him, and he was really good about it, not laughing at my slurring or inability to stand up properly. By the end of the night, an offer for him and his brother to quit their band and join ours was on the table. I went and visited Jesse (Meyer) the next day where the two of us had worked together for a few years (IGA), and he deliberated.

A week later we had our first practice. I slid over to guitar so Jesse could play bass. At that time, I was playing a well-worn Gibson "The" Paul, which really needed an overhaul, into a classic fender 4x10 combo extended into a no-name 4x10 cab...ghett-o. It was so much fun though, almost romantic...I was in love with the idea that I was the "guitar player"

So we went back to Dakota and played a 30 hour famine. Didn't go too well, everything that could have went wrong did, but it was still fun. Many shows would follow, from high schools to community centres to West End gigs and tours.

We recorded an EP at High North Records. We're not too happy with the product now, but at that time, man did we love it. We had a real. authentically pressed EP. Just felt cool.

Everyone was upgrading equipment and things were taking off. CD Releases and Tour benefits were had, and things were great. But money and time were running low on my part. University is expensive and time consuming, and thta is definately the route I wish to go.

I went on tour regardless, and it was probably one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Waterparks, getting lost, throwing shit out of vans. All good things.

However, I blew a cabinet on the road (the Christmas Special finally had it), and had to buy a new one when I got home. That set me back enough as it was, and talks of recording were running about. I simply did not want to throw down another 3 or 4 hundred that I did not really have. So talks were had, and here I am.

We're leaving on awesome terms, and I'll keep playing until an understudy can take over. I'm going to help them in finding a rhythm guitar player too.

Oh well, thanks for the memories guys...

(Some bad pictures because sites are now defunct and all that, couldn't find a single picture with taylor on the internet and I have no scanner, but anyways)

Taken after winning Dakota Battle of the Bands, my only digital picture from that.

That EP meant so much to me when it first came out, not a big fan of the songs now

First AS promo shot...check the flaming red hair (Accident)

Artwork for "Black as mourning Jet" EP (Does anyone have that song or Ripcord on their computer to send me?)

CD Release...Good times. I loved playing live with these boys.

Last promo shot that will have me in it.

Playing the Ex...I think I was staring at Kyle in that picture because he was being an idiot because he got so hammered "by accident" for that show.

Probably the worst quality picture of us, but my favourite. Goodbye AS.
